It being an electric one it was quite the power hog. It’s been over a month since I did that and I haven’t run out of very nice hot water yet.

That simple Do It Yourself heat exchanger from the Outdoor Wood Boiler software works great!!!

Well it’s starting to get cold here in Michigan, so I”m switching from my smolder mode to heating mode.

I kicked the water temperature up to 145 degrees F. and began to load the burner up in order to build up a good coal base.

Up to now , I was just burning a couple pieces of wood a day.

After a day or so I got a nice coal base established and every thing is starting to maintain temperature very nicely.

Hey everybody, I want to share a quick tip I figured out how to deal with trying to heat with your outdoor wood boiler in the fall time. The main problem is that in the fall can get in the 70F in the day but still get down in close to freezing at night. So it’s way to hot to run your boiler in the day and to cold not to at night.

What I have been doing is I have just a very small fire in my boiler. ( just a couple of logs max) I then shut the blower fan off and close the flue completely.

I then put a cheap lamp timer on my circulation pump and have it turned off all day.

I set the timer to turn the pump on at 4am in the morning and start circulating the warm water through my pex floor heating.

By doing so I only use a few logs a week and I’m not sweating at night or freezing in the morning.

I have the pump set to turn off at 10 am at which time the smothering logs will slowing heat the water back up to around 140F throughout the day.
